Candle Care

The first burn:

The first burn is very important! Just make sure that when you first light the candle you let it burn for at least 4 hours and let the candle reach a full melt pool. (This means that the wax melted across the entire surface of the sides of the vessel) This will prevent tunnelling and will create an even burn in future use of the candle.

How to take care of the wooden wick:

  • Make sure that the wick is free from ash.
    • You are able to trim the wick easily using your finger tips.  Before you light the candle after the first burn simply place your fingers on the wick and the ‘burned and unusable’ past of the wicks will snap off easily and you are ready to burn the candle again! Make sure that the candle is free from any debris before lighting!
  • Make sure the wick is free from any wax
    • You can use a cloth to clean the wick, this will create a better burn.
  • Make sure that the wick is trimmed.
    • No matter what, always trim the wick before relighting it, this ensures that you have a clean burn.  To do this you could use your finger tips, special wick trimmers, or something like nail clippers.

Reusing the vessel:

You have enjoyed your lovely scented candle and would like to repurpose your vessel! We have some tips on how to clean out the leftover wax, and some ideas on what you can use your glass for!

Cleaning out your jar:

Method 1:

One way to remove any leftover wax is by placing the vessel in the freezer for a couple of hours.  Then remove it and use a butter knife to scrape the wax loose.  Discard it and make sure that the vessel is free from wax and the wick clip & adhesive.  Clean out the vessel with hot water and soap (make sure that no wax goes down the drain!!!) You are now ready to reuse your glass.

Method 2:

Line a baking tray with some tin foil and place the candle upside down on the tray.  Preheat the oven to 180F / 82C.  It will take about 10-15 minutes for the wax to melt.  Remove the pan from the oven and let it sit on a heat resistant surface and let the melted wax harden.  With a towel grab your glass and wipe down the inside of the vessel.  Set it down again and let it cool fully.  Grab a large bowl and fill with warm water and soap.  Use a butter knife to remove the wick sticker and wick clip if they haven’t been removed in the previous steps. Now just dry off the vessel and you are ready to reuse it!

Ways to reuse your candle glass:

  • Drinking glass (5oz jar only)
  • Plant pot
  • Utensils (at an office or working space for small items like paper clips etc.)
  • Fill with rhinestones or other decoration
  •  Matches

  • Keep candle away from any drafts
  • Keep candle away from flammable objects
  • Keep candle away from
  • If the flame is high and uncontrolled safely blow out the candle, let the wax harden and trim the wick to 5mm.
How and where do I store my candle?
  • Keep away from direct sunlight.
  • Store in cool and dry place.
  • Place the lid on the candle when it's not burning
What do I do if the wooden wick extinguish itself?
This is a common situation with wooden wicks, don’t worry.  Make sure that the wick is trimmed to 5mm and that the wick is clean (free from wax / ash).
